After the swine flu attack, today every one wants to stay clean & healthy. Staying clean and healthy daily is very important and every individual should follow certain ways to stay clean and healthy. Personal hygiene is the most important part of staying healthy. Using a hand sanitizer is the most important way to prevent an infection or any kind of disease.

Since one naturally use hand sanitizers to cleanse your hands, 99.9 percent of harmful germs are killed by the sanitizers. Keeping a hand sanitizer with you and using to clean your hands every hour is the best way to keep your self away from any germs. Using a hand sanitizer is just like using soap and water.

One should make hand sanitizer a part of their life, as one cannot wash their hands with soap and water every hour. They are far gentler on your hands than constant hand washing with soap and water. You will still need to wash with soap and water to remove obvious dirt, but hand sanitizers are ideal for those people on-the-go.

Using a hand sanitizer will surely decrease your chance of getting sick. Since the alcohol can be very drying to the skin, most hand sanitizers have moisturizer content in them to minimize the irritation and dryness in the hands. Using hand sanitizer stops germs from spreading, so stay clean and healthy and sanitize your hands.

If you develop a fever of 100.5F or higher, calls your doctor right away (day or night) and start drinking plenty of fluids. Stay well hydrated and get a diagnosis and treatment for whatever is causing your fever.

If you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue and then toss it out. No tissues handy? Turn your face into the crook of your elbow, to keep germs from flying away.

Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol sanitizer – this will kill most germs. Keep using a hand sanitizer ever hour to keep your hands germ free and clean.

Avoid people who have a fever, cough, or sneezing, or complain of any flu-like symptoms

If you feel like you are developing flu symptoms, don’t wait to see if it will just go away. Call your doctor or nurse practitioner and ask for advice or an appointment.

Swine Flu is influenza A H1N1 Virus. It is just like any other common influenza virus but, the big difference is that the current swine influenza A (H1N1) virus has components of pig and bird influenza viruses in it, so that humans don’t have any immunity to it. That is what made it more likely that it would become a pandemic virus (have the ability to cause a global outbreak) because it could easily spread from person-to-person.

Tips to get away from the pandemic

Wash your hands frequently

Use the antibacterial soaps to cleanse your hands. Wash them often, for at least 15 seconds and rinse with running water.

Get enough sleep

Try to get 8 hours of good sleep every night to keep your immune system in top flu-fighting shape.

Drink sufficient water

Drink 8 to10 glasses of water each day to flush toxins from your system and maintain good moisture and mucous production in your sinuses.

Boost your immune system

Keeping your body strong, nourished, and ready to fight infection is important in flu prevention. So stick with whole grains, colorful vegetables, and vitamin-rich fruits.

Keep informed

There are no particular swine influenza symptoms that can distinguish this new strain from other types of influenza. Some patients, however, experience diarrhea, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal symptoms.

The main cause for swine influenza is the H1N1 virus. But this new strain is a combination of avian flu, human flu, and swine flu. This makes it deadlier than previous swine influenza outbreaks, and it’s the reason why many countries around the world are alarmed by the epidemic.

According to the World Health Organization report, there has been one confirmed death from swine influenza in the United States, out of the 91 confirmed cases. Swine flu can be transmitted via airborne droplets, which are released when an infected person sneezes or coughs.

You can also get it when your hands are exposed to germs, through touching someone who has the virus, or by touching any surface that hosts the swine flu virus. The most recent swine flu virus is a mutation which can be spread from one person to another. Mexico is said to be the source of the present swine flu epidemic.

The death toll has surpassed the one hundredth mark. And while its important to take cautionary measures so that their family will be safe from this disease, one should also remember that chances of getting the disease are slim if you take proper precautions. And, statistically, your chances of dying for it are even slimmer.

Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Try to avoid contact with sick people. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, this is how germs are spread.

If you should get sick stay home from work or school and limit contact with others, “The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. In the past, severe illness (pneumonia and respiratory failure) and deaths have been reported with swine flu infection in people. Like seasonal flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.

The 2009 flu pandemic is a global outbreak of a new strain of influenza A virus subtype H1N1, referred to as the “novel H1N1″ first identified in April 2009, and commonly called “Swine flu.” It is thought to be a reassortment of four known strains of influenza A virus: one endemic in (normally infecting) humans, one endemic in birds, and two endemic in pigs (swine). Transmission of the new strain is human-to-human, with cooked pork products safe to eat as the virus cannot be transmitted by eating foods.

The outbreak began in Mexico, with evidence that Mexico was already in the midst of an epidemic for months before the outbreak was recognized. Soon after, its government closed down most of Mexico City’s public and private offices and facilities to help contain the spread. In early June, as the virus spread globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak to be a pandemic, but also noted that most illnesses were of “moderate severity.” The virus has since spread to the Southern Hemisphere which entered its winter flu season, and to many less developed countries with limited healthcare systems. Because the virus was spreading with “unprecedented speed”, and many clinics were overwhelmed testing and treating patients, WHO stopped requiring countries to report all cases, but is still monitoring unusually large outbreaks.

The virus typically spreads from coughs and sneezes or by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the nose or mouth. Symptoms, which can last up to a week, are similar to those of seasonal flu, and may include fever, sneezes, sore throat, coughs, headache, and muscle or joint pains. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that most cases worldwide are usually mild, and most hospitalizations and deaths have been of persons that also had underlying conditions such as asthma, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, or a weakened immune system. Swine flu is a virus that’s capable of causing a spectrum of illness that includes severe complications and death. . . It’s very important we take this virus seriously”. As the virus spreads easily between people, through the air or surface contact, those who get the flu are recommended to stay home from school or work and avoid crowds to avoid spreading the infection further.

School closures and the distribution of antiviral medicines for prevention are not recommended at this time because the virus is widespread within the community.

There has been a lot of media attention about the recent swine flu outbreak. As people with addictions tend to have compromised immune systems to some extent (and obviously to a greater extent if you are homeless, live with a chronic condition such as HIV, hepatitis or cancer, are subject to stress, or have a poor diet), you should take extra care to keep yourself healthy from this and other infections. In summary, the main ways to stay healthy are:

Good hygiene, especially hand-washing.

Stay home, and keep your children home if you or they are ill.

Cover your nose and mouth if you cough or sneeze.

Avoid people who are ill.

Eat regularly, including fruit and vegetables.

Get enough rest.

See your family doctor immediately if you get ill, rather than waiting to see if you get better.
